The report shows that cyberattacks are becoming an increasing problem for Swedish organizations. 8 out of 10 municipalities, authorities and companies will experience cyberattacks this year. The costs of those attacks have risen by 42% over the past year.
Other key learnings from the report:
- Compared to 2019, an overall increase of 10% of security incidents was observed. In April, the increase was 70%. Attackers are using COVID-19 pandemic in effective and widespread phishing campaigns.
- Ransomware-based attacks have significantly evolved in terms of methodology, impact, and size of ransom. The demanded ransom amount is frequently based on the turnover of the organization, and there are cases with demands over 180 million SEK.
- The time from initial breach to full compromise of the environment is getting longer – giving organizations more time to react. Unfortunately, this is a symptom of attackers being too successful. They are forced to choose and prioritize which breached environments to focus on, resulting in delays for the others.
- Threat actors have already mapped the exposure of their targets and are capable of quickly launching relevant attacks, leaving the target organization little time to address the issue. Patching exposed systems quickly is more critical than ever!
- During most ransomware incidents, the attackers start encrypting the environments during the weekend.
We know that well informed decisions lead to fewer breaches
